Teeny Bopper TV Show Made Using the Sims 3

I think that this has put the nail in the coffin for me. I am so not going to purchase this game. Knowing EA as a company, when I see them plunking this kind of money into advertising, I can only assume that they're not bothering to spend on other aspects of the game's production. Like fixing the freak'n bugs before consumers spend their hard-earned money on the game.

Here's the TV promo:

One Tree Hill- Sims 3 Style

  1. Yeah, I've been debating over Sims 3 for a while now, but like you said, EA does seem to smash open their piggy banks with a blunt object and put all those quarters, nickels, and dimes into advertisements. Plus the animation doesn't look nearly as good as I was hoping, and I'm just not done with Sims 2. If I switched my stories over to Sims 3, I'd have no custom content and would have to make a ton of sims over again, and I know you'd have the same problems. It might not be bad for people who actually play the game... actually, I think even if I did play the game as it was meant to, I still wouldn't buy it. In fact, I didn't even buy Sims 2--it was most definitely a torrent file, which is probably why it's soooo bugged.

  2. Yeah there's no way I would switch this story over. It would be way too complicated and the necessary custom content probably won't exist for a long time. Not only that but my simming computer just barely meets the game specifications.

Plus, other than the game surely being riddled with bugs, I've been reading a bunch of crazy rumors about how EA only plans on sharing the modding tools with creators who would charge and give them a kick back.

Maybe down the road I would consider getting the game but only after the kinks had been sorted and only unless the community controlled the sharing of CC. AND only if when there is enough CC out there for me to be able to start a story with the game.

  3. Yeah. I'm in no rush for this either. I don't even tell a story like you do, but I'm simply not finished with TS2. By the time it was release, I was extremely bored. Even though Makin' Magic had just come out.

Shame on EA for only thinking of the almighty dollar instead of the customers who bring in that almighty dollar.

  4. Yeah! A lot of people have said that as well- That they're still enjoying the Sims 2. I've never played the original game but sometimes I think I might pick it up and play it for fun. Then I wonder what the point of that would be. :p The graphics alone would probably drive me batty. Their faces are completely flat!

There are some aspects of the game that would seem to be advantageous to a storyteller- The aging, the bodyshapes, the walking around the neighborhood business... But it's looking like the cons will outweigh the pros? Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe it will be fantastic. But it's just not seeming that way.

And the thing about the simming community is, they're in it because they enjoy it and whenever they see someone trying to turn large profits on this thing that they invest their time and energy and creativity and fandom into, they completely flip out. Just look at Walt. *points to Walt* EA has got to be careful in the way that they handle this thing if they want the game to be received well. Otherwise, they'll have an OMGWTFBBQ on their hands. And nobody wants that.
