Alexander Goth Watches Me Sleep

Mr. Pen and I moved a little over a month ago, and in doing so, we inherited a giant mass-marketed art print. It's about 5 feet tall, 4 feet wide, just massive and Broadway themed. We kept it because I plan to gesso over it, and use the canvas for a collaborative piece based on one of Mr. Pen's doodles. Anyway, there's this one corner of the print that has a portrait of who-the-hell-knows, and the portrait looks just like Alexander Goth. Posted here for your consideration.

Why I Don't Believe in Ghosts by Phillip Pullman

I ran across this opinion piece in the NYTimes today in defense of fantasy fiction. The writer is the author of the "His Dark Materials" series. Since a lot of you write/enjoy stories with supernatural elements, I thought to pass this one on.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN, EVERYONE! :)

The picture says it all. Or maybe I am the only one neurotic enough to look at those two toons and see them mirroring one another.

Do any of you guys watch Breaking Bad?

Photobucket

I discovered this show over the summer and am absolutely enamored with it. The writing, the acting-- Everything about it is BRILLIANT. Best thing on television since... Ever. If you haven't seen it, go find the pilot somewhere right now and watch. Don't even finish reading this blog post. Penelope is not kidding.

And now for what this has to do with DBL:

There is a character on Breaking Bad called Gustavo who is a gangster, drug lord type. He is extremely smart and successful, soft-spoken, even friendly. He has a persona that is pretty disarming but beneath that, he will waste your whole family if it is to his advantage.

As a cover/money laundering scheme, he runs a chain of fast food places called Los Pollos Hermanos. And it was when I was watching him working behind the counter in one of his restaurants that I realized-- THAT MAN IS ADDISON LONDON! OMFG! I mean, just look at this dude:

And he has a very stoic, Jack-like right hand man as well. It's incredible.

So as we move forward in the story and London is hanging around, as he will tend to do, just picture Gus from Breaking Bad. Because he and London are totally the same guy.

HOLY CATS, BATMAN!

I think I may have found real life Alexei!

Oh Wow!

Lookie at the thread I just found over at More Awesome Than You:

Evidently, the names of the family came from characters and words used in some rather epic-looking fantasy novel series. And according to the thread, the word that "Kvornan" seems to be derived from means "time of melting snows". This is interesting when we consider that I chose a translation of "November" for Kvornan, which marks the beginning of winter on the Fae calendar. *rubs chin in consideration*

Welcome To Pleasantview!

We have a school! And a vinyard! And a volunteer fire department! A cemetery! Looking for a date? We have singles! Blue grass open stage anyone? A place to send your aging relatives???

Heh. That last link was my favorite.

Ok, I digress. The singles were my favorites.

Errr...?

So I was reading the Sims Wiki (which I find to be a pretty neat resource) and at the bottom of the page, there were banner ads. One of them was for a pro-wrestling duo called the Bella Twins. This would not have interested me if it weren't for the fact that they look like Bella Goth:

errBs

I'm fairly certain that the name is not a reference to the Sims but even so, it's still pretty funny. Particularly since there really are two Bella Goths in the Sims.

And this concludes the nerdiest entry I have ever written on BBL.

And then of course, there's this

The House Of Fallen Trees: A Ghost Story

This story died a rather untimely death. But if you visit the site, you can see a picture of the Tricous in all of their Maxis glory. The premise for this story was really promising, I wish the writer had gone through with it. And the back story was so serendipitous. Ah well.

Some Silliness

As if you need anymore silliness after that great picture of London. :-p

In my never-ending quest for information about the House of Fallen Trees, I came across this Exchange story. It's a cute comedy about six kids that go to squat in the House for a few days. Reading it, I learned that the actual ghost of Tricou legend is a little girl called Penelope (the Tricou House being a tourist trap in New Orleans). Anyway, the story is packed with pictures of the House and a lot of goofy one-liners. Enjoy. :)
