A Quick Pronunciation Sidenote

It occurs to me that the names of the Tricous may have many possible pronunciations because, well, they are completely made-up names. So here is my pronunciation guide based on Ashkay word sounds.

Tricou- This is a francophone name so the pronunciation is naturally Tree-COO. A long time ago, I was watching a video on YouTube where someone was giving a tutorial on how to resurrect the Tricous and they pronounced the name as "Trick-A-You". I cringed.

Kvornan- Kv in Ashkay is pronounced as F. Also, if an R appears before a consonant, then the R is rolled. Foor-NAAN. Unless you're Elise, in which case the name is pronounced "Cover-Nin". Kvornan secretly thinks it's cute.

Jennail- J is pronounced as Y. Ai is pronounced as I. Yeh-Nile

Fricorith- Just like it looks. Free-Core-Ith

Jennicor- Yen-Ick-Or

Then there's Jon and Kieran who don't actually have Ashkay names. :p

EDIT: Whoops, I forgot one!

Nylissit- Nil-Iss-It. Rhymes with "illicit".

Double EDIT: I can't believe I forgot Gvaudoin.

Gvaudoin: The "g" is silent. V'uh-duh-WAHN. If only I could think of a better way to make that one readable...

  1. Thank you so much. I can't believe I found this. I have never heard them spoken, so pronunciation was in the dark :)

  2. No problem! I should note though that the Tricou names were all made-up by Maxis, so this pronunciation guide is just here for anyone reading my story. Other simmers may have (and probably do have) other pronunciations in mind.
