I'm surprised that no one has ever asked this question! But here is the question and the answer just in case anyone has ever wondered.
Why 2074? Why not some other year? Why not 2008? Here's why:
I didn't want the year to correspond to our years. The setting is a place that never existed so I wanted the time period to be one that likewise never existed. I chose 2074 specifically because if you have NL and you take a trip downtown, you'll find a 50's diner. I don't remember what it's called. But the blurb about it says something like, "1950's food at 2050's prices". So I basically shrugged my shoulders and decided that Bella disappeared in 2050. Then through a long process (that I can neither describe or even fully recall) of determining the ages of all of my characters, it came to light that Don died 24 years after Bella disappeared.
That's pretty cool. I love how the tiniest little detail can set off a huge creative chain of events.
ReplyDeleteGuess what? I had a dream about Blue Lake! I don't remember much of it, just that I was investigating the Tricou murders. :-O
Wow, really? I never have dreams about Blue Lake! Though I always go to sleep thinking about it. I'm re-working my outline right now, trying to iron out the kinks. So a dream might be helpful. Or just entertaining.
