Maxis Hates the Sacred Institution of Marriage

LOL

So I'm working on Chapter 31 (I think it'll be up tonight by the way) and in it, there's a close up shot of Troy where you see his hands.

Has anyone else ever noticed that sims wear their wedding rings on their middle fingers? What is up with  that? I totally fell out when I saw that. Is it some kind of social commentary? A ridiculous mistake? A fluke that only happens to MY sims??

hehehehehe

  1. Yeah, I don't know why they did that. My sims all have their wedding rings on their middle fingers too, and from what you can see in the pictures, so do Lothere's and Verity's. Probably just a really dumb programming error, or some sort of inside joke--might be worth googling though.

  2. When I showed it to my boyfriend, his immediate reaction was, "Of course. That's where people wear rings." To which I naturally responded, "Don't be stupid. You're meant to wear rings on your ring finger. Hence the name, 'ring finger'."

So is it possible that whoever programed the game just didn't know any better??? This is a wee bit of a conundrum to me. :p

  3. My guess is that it was easier to program the animations if the ring was there. Perhaps the middle finger is literally in the middle of the hand, so it's animated symmetrically or something? *just pondering*

It has proved problematic for me since in writing the wedding ceremonies I have had to have the groom place the ring on the thumb, the index finger, and the middle finger, instead of the first three fingers. It was that or have the pictures look wrong.

What I need to do is figure out how to get those damn rings off again! I married quite a few Sims using the Insiminator, and now I need to get Magog's stupid ring off him and nothing I try works!

I am really tempted to stop marrying Sims in-game and just using a wearable ring if such a thing can be found. I have some big "coffin rings" I found on mts2 but I don't think I've seen any plain bands.

  4. I would check Club Crimsyn. I know they have plain bands for men.

And I know what you mean about the rings staying on! If worse comes to worst, you could always photoshop the rings out. But who wants to do that?

I've seen wedding rings on the ground on more than one occasion. And the sims usually won't walk around them. They'll just stand there all frustrated. Very weird.
